MANAGING POLYPHAGOUS SHOTHOLE BORER with ORGsome
ORGsome is a colloidal nutrient formula for plants that improves plant health and resilience, affords good growth and promotes increased shooting, flowering and fruiting. The producers of ORGsome began conducting trials on using this nutrient formula to manage polyphagous shothole borer (PSHB) in summer 2018/19 after discovering by accident that ORGsome appeared to help trees recover from PSHB infestation.

Independent trials have now been taking place since early August 2019 by, among others, a doctor of science and a horticuturalist with over 40 years experience. The results are very promising and trials are continuing.

How ORGsome helps trees combat PSHB

ORGsome offers a three-pronged approach:

1) Prevention: ORGsome improves tree health. It also promotes the development of mycorrhiza (beneficial fungi that live in association with plant roots and help to extend the root zone of the plant, thereby enabling the plant to access nutrients and water from a wider area). This is essential for tree health and can only occur by providing the correct carbon source within the plant (ORGsome contains the right type of carbon to do this).

2) Anti-fungal action: There are a number of organic acids and nutrient compounds within ORGsome that are very good fungicides. From our trials thus far, it appears that the combinations of these compounds in ORGsome are able to ensure control of the Fisarium fungus, as well as beetle eggs.

3) Recovery: Quick recovery after infestation is essential, as this will ensure a lower level of infestation in year 2, from our observations.

Using only one substance, be it chemical or oganic, could highly likely only provide control for one critical aspect of PSHB infestation and is unlikely to afford a long-term solution and recovery.

Trials need to be conducted over a number of years to be conclusive. However, by promoting overall tree health and mycorrhizal development, ORGsome appears to be effective in managing PSHB. (See links to Fact Sheets opposite).
