An environmental novel.  Logan Springfield, top mining lawyer in Johannesburg, stumbles upon a client committing a nefarious act.  Within days, his job and career are on the line.

Four years later, Dean Carter makes him an enticing offer with an opportunity to be an influential player in South Africa’s embryonic oil and gas industry.  But Logan rapidly discovers that everything he holds dear could be destroyed, affecting thousands of lives.

As the shadow of his past looms, can Logan appease his conscience while doing what Carter wants - securing gas and oil exploration rights over a South African province that supplies vast quantities of water to a dry country?

Reviews

I enjoyed this book from the first pages to the last.  It kept me reading like a thirller, which it is, although dealing with the contentious issue of fracking rather than murder.  The characters are real and believable, the places referred to are authentic and described sympathetically, and the book reflects all the conflicts which arise from mining applications - and even the confused personal conscience of those applying for permissions.  The dialogue is easy to read and plausible, lending authenticity to the characters.  I highly recommend this book, both for the story and the context, which is current and newsworthy and vital to our sensitive environment.

This book shows the author's knowledge of environmental issues and gives an indication of how communities can and should be involved in these debates to protect themselves from harmful exploitation.

From the moment I started reading, I could not put down the book.  Author Bronwyn Howard highlights the world of environmental issues and unscrupulous oil/gas companies.  Emotions run high.  Although fiction, the cases indicated are (fr)actual.  Welcome to the world of corruption, meetings, lies and half lies, litigation and assessments...
