QUICK BIO

Like many of you on this site, I love books and reading!  I am an avid reader and books have been providing me with hours of entertainment, inspiration and information since I was five and my father taught me to read in an afternoon.  I have always told stories too - and was bashing out short missives on my father's really ancient Olivetti typewriter from around then as well.

This is possibly not surprising, as I come from a long line of writers (an ancestor who came to South Africa with the 1820 Settlers apparently worked with Thomas Pringle to produce the country's first-ever newspaper in Grahamstown).

In my early twenties, I began hiking and backpacking and was truly amazed by the magnificent country I am fortunate to live in.  (One way to appreciate nature and endless landscapes is to spend your weekends and holidays tramping around the countryside with a backpack on your back.)  Of course, I soon discovered that many of these places are threatened by a variety of often inappropriate developments, including mining and others, and I soon cut my teeth on environmental activism, defending the Magaliesberg, where I hiked on many weekends.

My activism increased and the digital revolution eventually enabled me to combine my concerns with my great love of writing.  Since 2009, I have been self-publishing my own indie e-magazine titles focusing on nature, wildlife and ultimatly sustainable living.  I have written a couple of ebooks as well - on subjects of interest to me, which I thought other people might enjoy.

I have recently begun writing environmental novels with my debut work, Contested Land.  The novel has been assessed to rave reviews.  There are likely more where this one came from.
